A journey powered by willpower and strength
Full Throttle is a crew of four determined women, one boat and 3000 miles of expansive ocean. We aim to empower others to take on challenges and push boundaries whilst reconnecting with nature.
Our expedition starts in La Gomera in the Canary Isles. A voyage powered by willpower and strength, guided by the sun, the moon, the stars and our Garmin technology. 😉
The women who make up this adventure share a common desire to raise money for World Vision – Ukraine, Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), Maggies Cancer Care and Great Ormond Street Hospital. All the while rowing two hours on, two hours off around the clock.
We are tracking our carbon footprint and cutting down our emissions by cycling to the start line and sailing back.

Favourite snack: Grave yard shift hot chocs were top notch

This needs a bit of context. 3am the night before the crossing we were sorting last minute music and I asked Aileen for a bit of James Blunt [Sue me] cut to asking for it to be played, Aileen going to sleep and Jess and I going through the full 2 hour shift with Blunters, didn’t even realise he had two hours worth of songs. Anyway You’re Beautiful became the song we sang to the Whales, so that’s my song of the trip, haters gonna hate!

A birthday to remember!

Let’s take some time to appreciate Aileen - the absolute rowing machine. In the not-too-distant past, she was a Hydrox Word Champion, and this year, along with the other three girls, she looks dead set on finishing first in the women’s class in #TWAC2022.

They’d been aiming to make it to Antigua before A became another year older, and nothing short of perfectionists, spending the big day in the ocean will sting - not least because they don’t have any Guinness on board!

But there’s a chance that today will bring the tops of mountains into view, and mark a countdown for the last couple of days on the water - stay tuned for more updates in the next few days!

500 Miles To Go!

In any other context, that’d seem like a lot. But the girls have now completely 5/6ths of the crossing! They’re still well on track to top the women’s class, and are racing to make Aileen’s birthday on the 21st!

Still intently focused on the finish, they’ve barely stopped for a chat about their social media!

But to celebrate only 500 to go, they’ve asked for some of their friends to jump into a little challenge to mark the waypoint. So, if you get tagged in this, what they ask of you is to row 5k, donate £5 and tag 5 friends!

Their donations have been creeping up throughout the row - over £3k raised since they’ve been on the water. But let’s try and push those numbers up!

Quick update

It’s been fairly quiet from the girls in the past few days - cloudy conditions have meant they’re low on power to charge electronics, so have had to prioritise their essential safety equipment and contact with their weather and navigational support. They’ve even been rowing without music!
-
But the numbers speak for themselves, with a couple of amazing 80NM plus days under their belts. This strong performance means that overnight, they dropped below the 1000NM to go marker!

Still in great spirits, with an understated “we’re getting there” summarising how they’re pulling through to the other side of a tough couple of weeks, and continuously asking what they need to do to chase down some of those teams in front!

Half way there!

Today marked a monumental waypoint in the journey - the half way mark. 21 days ago, Aileen, Corrine, Daisy and Jess departed from La Gomera destined for Antigua.
-
Since then, they’ve had to contend with harsh weather, reliability issues, injuries, and more than likely, a few tense interpersonal moments. With all that behind them, it’d be daunting to think that they’ve got to go through all of that again. But now in the swing of things, putting in some incredible mileage, and more agreeable weather, it’s likely that they’re well past half way time-wise. (Fingers crossed, touch wood, etc.)

And then we reflect on the bigger ‘journey’ that has brought them to this point. The fund raising, the specialist training, the practice rows, the ferries and that epic cycle that got them to the start line.

This is far, far more than half way, and they couldn’t do it without their followers, their families, friends and sponsors. Thank you all.
